Object Name Syringe
Catalog Number 88.227.51.1-8
Description Hypodermic syringe set in the original case. The set consists of two syringes, four short needles (each a different length) and a needle hub. The glass barrel of each syringe is encased in metal. One syringe has graduations marked on the metal plunger. The leather-covered wooden case has a metal closure. The case is lined with leather and has a flap which covers two-thirds of the lid; this creates a small compartment to hold needles. The gold lettering on the top of the case reads, "Raritan / Johnson & Johnson / New Brunswick, N.J. U.S.A." Needle 88.227.51.6 has a very thin wire stuck in the end of the needle. The wire was used to clean and/or unclog the needle; it was left in the needle to keep it clean.
